Are you new? We've never heard of HAHK.
We've been around since 1999. HAHK Training and Consulting
was developed out of necessity. Both, as a Gerontologist, but also
as an administrator/licensee in long-term care, I became frustrated
with the options for continuing education. I found most of the courses
offered to be dreadfully boring, not being taught by a person in
the respective field, or worse, not even a qualified trainer with
classroom experience and, at times, the content was inaccurate.
So, I took my training experience and my knowledge and joined Residential
Care Society, under one of the most influential trainers and advocates
of our time for the developmentally disabled and workers in health
care, Lonnie Nolta. I learned a tremendous amount from Lonnie as
did a lot of you. Sadly, Lonnie was recruited by the higher power
to run things upstairs, which threw many of us into chaos. It was
from her leadership and legacy that HAHK was borne.
What's with the funny name?
That's my favorite question. To be quite honest, it was one of
those ideas that seemed good at the time. In fact, outside of California,
we are known as HAWK, because there are quite a few students who
think it's "HANK". So, we often get calls from people
trying to track down this guy named Hank. At first, we told them
they had the wrong number, until we figured it out! Our idea was
to make the name unique while having a deeper meaning. Which, we
achieved, at a price. H-A-H-K are the first four letters of my last
name. Which pronounced in it's entirety is: Hawk-low-tubby. The
"Hawk" in my Native American culture, is the messenger
of knowledge, thus a very appropriate double entendre. Unfortunately,
this fact is lost on most.
Most companies have a mission statement, do you?
Well, not really, we have a tagline of sorts though "The educated,
educating" - we developed that out of frustration of those
vendors who have neither an education relating to the subjects they
teach nor applied experience in the field. They come in and just
read a curriculum that was developed by someone else and look like
a deer in headlights when asked a question. I have been toying with
the idea of a mission statement however, let's see what I can come
up with on the fly
..
HAHK Training and Consulting is dedicated to the following:
- Providing accurate and necessary information to health
care administrators with the goal of facilitating the increase
of quality in the lives of their clients.
- To validate and empower the health care provider with
the tools and an open, safe, forum to share issues and troubleshoot
them among their cohorts.
- To provide stimulating curriculum with real-life scenarios
to illustrate how the curriculum relates to the "real
world".
- To offer all of the above in a supportive, fun environment.
- And of course, to provide lunch!

How was that?
Who is HAHK?
Admittedly, we are a small company and we intend to keep it that
way out of fear of what has happened to the quality of the training
from companies who started like us but grew out of control. Our
team consists of like-minded individuals with an obscene amount
of education, experience and passion for what we do. Click on a
