Our
Philosophy...
HAHK Consulting is dedicated to facilitating the conscientious
in their pursuit of operating a long-term care facility, successfully.
We view success as the outcome of thoughtful program planning, wise
operations management, flawless relationship fostering, innovative
& functional physical plant design and execution upon a vision.
We are devoted to directly influencing the quality of life of those
seeking care from our clients. We provide this by having hands-on
experience, a proven track record, an unparalleled education, but,
most importantly, an undying passion to increase the quality of
life of those living in long-term care.
That being said...
A strong word of caution - There are many individuals emerging
into this facet of health care posing as "consultants".
The word in the field is that this is easy money, little work and
the clients are naïve and desperate enough to pay, since they
don't have a working knowledge. HAHK is sad to report that roughly
50% of our clients come to us after having catastrophic experiences
with these types of individuals. In addition to throwing away large
amounts of money, delaying the opening of their facilities and damaging
the all too precious relationship with the Department of Social
Services, often times, their spirit is broken. Please don't let
this happen to you. Do your homework before hiring a consultant.
Who is a typical HAHK client?
Logically, this is where a company would ordinarily place their
list of services on the website. We can understand that most companies
are anxious to entice potential clients up front. However, we felt
that it would be a good time to mention, before we get too far,
that HAHK Consulting does not work with everyone. In fact, we decline
more applicants than we assist. Our standards and expectations are
very high, and, since our reputation is at stake with every single
client we take on, we must be very selective.
Before you continue...
Please answer the following questions to yourself. Be honest.
- Is finance your primary motivation for starting a care home?
- Do you believe that there are too many state regulations?
- Are you expecting to walk away from your care home once it's
up and running?
- Do you believe that owning a care home will instantly make you
wealthy?
- Are you under the impression that care homes are "turn-key"?
- Is it your belief that running a care home is easy and without
stress?
- Are you planning on keeping your "day job" while running
your home?
If ANY of the answers to the above questions was "Yes",
HAHK is not your consultant. We only work with those who share our
philosophies and motivations which also happen to be that of the
Department of Social Services. And remember; you can't fake passion,
if it isn't there, do something else!
So, you made it through the screening process, great, here is
what's available to you...
Start up Services
Based on a phone interview, an initial meeting may be set up to
provide the client with a realistic set of expectations, to avoid
disappointment. Our goal is not to discourage the client from starting
up as much as it is to paint an accurate portrayal of such topics
as: Profit and Loss Margins, Levels of Responsibility Liability
and Accountability, Expected Levels of Personal Involvement, Current
Market Status - per demographic, and, Etiquette of Navigating Bureaucracies.
Upon completion of discussion, or if no initial meeting is deemed
necessary, the following services are at the client's disposal:
- Assistance with accurately completing the notorious A and B
licensing application packet. Developing a custom Plan of Operations
and fostering a relationship with the state. Development of a
complete custom business plan.
- Physical plant inspection and development of retrofit plan to
best accommodate the client, ensure ease of function and create
esthetic appeal (marketing) while staying within code and satisfying
the fire marshal.
- Attracting, retaining and empowering quality personnel. Developing
a feasible and harmonious long-term relationship with staff. Avoiding
lowering the quality of life of your residents, destroying your
reputation and losing market share through turnover - an otherwise
epidemic in this field.
- Creative marketing strategies to maintain a healthy census and
a respected reputation within the community. Establishing a waiting
list while your competitors are at 50% census.
- The often overlooked - management of the families of clients
in long term care. Going above and beyond - developing an assessment
for the families, holding an orientation, developing a plan with
delegations of responsibility and setting realistic expectations
for each other.
- Development of intuitive and accurate documentation & record
keeping systems - the most common source of citations in any long
term care facility.
- Programming for those afflicted with Dementia and Alzheimer's
Disease - this is our specialty. Providing comprehensive specialized
programming, including an award-winning activity calendar, a comprehensive
geriatric assessment tailored to those with memory impairments
and an effective personnel training program which exceeds all
requirements.
Program Maintenance Services
Congratulations, you are up and running! Now, let's keep it that
way! The following are a list of services for those who intend on
operating a successful long term care community:
- Staff and Administrator Training - HAHK Training specializes
in developing relevant and applicable training programs to satisfy
all requirements by the state. HAHK training is a licensed vendor
with the state of California to provide continuing education for
the following licenses: RCFE, ARF, RN, MFT and LCSW. Custom curriculum
can be developed to address specific interests upon request. For
a comprehensive description of courses currently offered, click

- Addressing Plans of Correction - Maintaining a healthy
relationship with the state is imperative. Upon receipt of a citation
and subsequent plan of correction, it is wise to get assistance
to make absolutely sure that the plan is created properly and
presented in a timely manner. Hiring a consultant for this is
not only impressive to the state, it is often times recommended.
A good portion of our business is through referral by the Department
of Social Services.
- Mock Survey - Your own quality assurance team. HAHK provides
an intense walk-through of your long-term care facility just as
your licensing analyst would. Based on what was found, a set of
recommendations is provided to ensure a favorable review by your
LPA.
- Educational Workshops for Families - Informative classes
helping families of those in long-term care cope with the myriad
emotions that come with transition and contemplation of mortality.
Frank, but empathetic, discussions are lead by our team to address
common concerns, fears and traumas revolving around age-related
illnesses and memory impairments. The discussion is lead by a
Gerontologist who holds additional degrees in Health Science and
Psychology. These workshops assist both, the families, and the
long term care facility in providing the best possible care for
the resident. Having an unbiased, expert, third party deliver
the workshops is not only impressive, it completely removes any
perception of a conflict of interest.
